Hot Coals And Needles

I may have a problem posting over the next few days. My left shoulder is on fire, burning as if a hot coal has been pushed into the socket. Meanwhile my right knee has equally hot needles inserted under the kneecap. I'm not sure what I've done but I wish hadn't done it.

Sober analysis of the situation causes me to accept that I have probably damaged the shoulder trying to persuade my weakened left arm to behave normally. Just now I can't even lift a sandwich from a plate to my mouth, even with cunning use of balance and leverage of the wrist and elbow. My knee seems to be twisting during hoisted transfers, particularly in and out of bed. The resulting injuries are relatively minor but are exacerbated by constant repetition. I can't not eat and I have to get in and out of bed. It's all a little wearing.

Now, exactly how much Morphine Sulphate is it safe to take?

  1. I hope you can find a way to rest your shoulder and knee so they aren't causing you so much pain. Can you be splinted before being put in the hoist so that your knee doesn't twist so much?

  2. I've got the whole of what was HCF praying for you mate (it can't hurt but to try).

Do you have any visiting friends that can be persuaded to act as scribe for you??? I'm sure you want to keep on writing...provided you are not totally 'stoned' on Morphine of course....if that were the case I will look forward to future blogs with great interest...(yellow matter custard...dripping from a dead dogs eye).

You can tell its Monday morning can't you.

I and the boy Bassbin will see you in a few weeks

  4. I hope you get to feeling better Stephen. This past summer I saw an occupational therapist and she was able to construct a pad for me to eat on. It more or less raises the plate closer to my mouth, and it has a place for me to rest my hand. Although it, at times, makes me feel a little bit like a dog eating his dog food, it is actually very helpful. As soon as I get a chance, I will send you a photo. Everybody's different, but you never know, it might help.

  5. By the way, I just typed that entire comment using voice recognition. I don't know if you've ever tried it, but if it's been awhile, the software has gotten much better.
